City Council Approves ABC Ordinance for Temporary Special Event Licenses

At Monday night’s meeting, the Princeton City Council approved an ordinance on first reading permitting temporary alcoholic beverage licenses for special events.

Before the Council acted on the ordinance, Code Enforcement Officer Alan Getz explained that Adams Breezy Hills Farm, along with a third party, plans to host a Valentine’s Day event, in which they would need to obtain a special temporary license for the sale of alcoholic beverages and amending the City’s ordinance.

Getz stated that the special temporary ABC license would permit the sale of alcohol at fairs, farmers markets, racing associations, and other specific events.

He also reported that 18 businesses successfully renewed their alcohol licenses by last Friday’s deadline, with efforts continuing to increase the package quota.

The ordinance regarding special temporary licenses was unanimously approved, with Councilwoman Sheila Gates absent from the meeting.

In other new business, the Council adopted a resolution, as explained by City Attorney Todd Wetzel, to oppose any bills introduced during the 2025 Kentucky General Assembly session that would mandate the centralized collection of local occupational fees and taxes by the Commonwealth of Kentucky or third parties.

Additionally, Wetzel requested the Council’s approval to appoint a Hopkinsville accounting firm as the auditor for the Princeton Electric Plant Board.

In unfinished business, Mayor Brock Thomas updated the Council on the park lighting bid, stating that they met with contractors about two weeks ago and need to rebid the work to allow adequate time for some changes that were made.

The Council also received staffing updates from Princeton Police Chief Chris King and Fire Chief Brent Francis. WPKY’s News Edge will provide more details on these reports in the coming days.
