A Princeton man has been charged with making a false report regarding a shooting last week.

According to Assistant Princeton Police Chief Shane Allison, 47-year-old Marlon Towns was charged with falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement and driving on a DUI-suspended license regarding an incident he reported to the local police department on January 27.

Police said Towns was being treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound and reported that he was shot by an unknown suspect in a random “drive-by” shooting at the Marathon on Marion Road. After an investigation, officers said that no shooting had occurred at that location.

Towns was taken into custody on Friday and lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
