John Vickrey, 74, of Princeton

John “Dan” Vickrey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Princeton, Kentucky, on February 16, 2025. Born on December 23, 1950, in Lyon County, Dan lived a life rich with meaningful contributions both professionally and personally.

Dan dedicated his career to being a skilled Diesel Mechanic at Riley Trucking, where he was known for his expertise and unwavering work ethic. His colleagues respected him not only for his mechanical skills but also for his kind heart and readiness to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his professional life, Dan was a man of many hobbies and interests. He had a penchant for collecting toy cowboy guns and cherished spending weekends with his wife, Penny, at auctions. An avid fisherman in his past and lawn enthusiast, he took great pleasure in mowing his yard, which served as an extension of his love for the outdoors. Dan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: savoring coffee, watching TV westerns with a cast including John Wayne, and listening to the classic sounds of Tom T Hall, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash. Most importantly, Dan adored his family, which remained the cornerstone of his life.

Dan’s memory will live on through his loving spouse, Penny Vickrey of Princeton, his devoted children: sons Billy Joe Vickrey of Princeton and Johnny Vickrey of Shelbyville, Tennessee, his brother: Jerry Vickrey, his sisters: Donna Knoth & Kathy Cardin. He takes pride in his cherished grandsons, Bo Vickrey (Rachel), Chris Vickrey (Lacy), and granddaughter Kelsey Sullivan (Jerry), as well as his great-grandchildren, Sophia Sullivan, Callie Vickrey, Ellie Vickrey, Lillie Vickrey, and Case Engler.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Maxine Vickrey, as well as his brothers—Jim Vickrey, Billy Vickrey, Larry Vickrey, and Bobby “Joe” Vickrey—and sisters Joyce Sinclair and Linda Vickrey.

Visitation will be held on February 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Goodman Funeral Home, located at 1032 West Main St, Princeton, Kentucky, 42445. Following this, a Funeral Service will commence at 12:00 PM with Bro. Phillip Whitaker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, Princeton KY.

Dan’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
