Leona Lindholm, 95, of Caldwell County

Leona Mae Lindholm, a spirited soul known for her unwavering work ethic and profound passion for the ranching life, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in Caldwell County, Kentucky. Born on June 3, 1929, in the heart of Orange County, California, Leona’s zest for life and the great outdoors was evident from her earliest days.

Leona’s life was marked by her dedication to her family, her career, and her community. She is survived by her loving family, including her two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Mae Myers of Montana and Sara Allen of Caldwell County; her sons, Sam Douglas Lane of Montana and Fred J. Lane of Oregon; and her brother, Edward P. Handy of California. Leona was also the cherished matriarch of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy of strength and perseverance. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son, Andy K. Lane.

Throughout her life, Leona was a hardworking laborer and rancher, embodying the true spirit of the American West. Her hands were as capable of gentle care for newborn calves as they were skilled in the demanding tasks of ranch life. Her tenacity and talent led her to become the past President of the Mounted Mountaineers Club in the 1970s, where she left an indelible mark with her leadership and enthusiasm for equestrian pursuits.

Leona’s name became synonymous with excellence in rodeo sports. Her record-setting cow dobbling at a mere 3 seconds was a testament to her agility and connection with the animals she loved. Her passion for rodeo extended beyond competition, as she trained and rode horses with a level of expertise and empathy that was admired by all who watched her in the saddle.

There will be no public services at this time.
