Lyon County Fire Destroys Barn and Contents in Suwanee Community

A fire on Monday afternoon in Lyon County destroyed a barn and everything inside it.

Chief Bill Compton of the Kuttawa Volunteer Fire Department reported that firefighters were dispatched to a barn fire shortly before 2:00 PM in the 900 block of KY 810 North in the Suwanee community.

click to download audioHe stated that the fire also destroyed the barn’s contents, which included a tractor, various hand tools, and other items.

Chief Compton also noted that the recent rainfall helped firefighters in controlling a field fire, which he believes was ignited by a fire that was extinguished and left over the weekend.

click to download audioHe also reminds the public that Kentucky enforces burn restriction seasons annually. According to state law, the spring fire season is in effect from February 15 through the end of April, while the fall fire season runs from October 1 through December 15.
