The Caldwell County Grand Jury returned indictments for theft, burglary and strangulation charges during the February 18 session.
20-year old Jordan G. Smith, of Hopkinsville, was indicted for theft by unlawful taking $1,000 or more – Auto.
Smith was arrested in Hopkinsville on a Caldwell County warrant for theft on August 31. Hopkinsville Police said Smith took a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer without the owner’s permission and wrecked the vehicle in Hopkins County.
A true bill was returned for 29-year old Karli Nichole Ritter, of Princeton, on charges of second-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree strangulation, and failure to notify address change to the Department of Transportation.
The charges stem from July 27, 2021, when Princeton Police reported Ritter was involved in a physical altercation with 23-year old Shane Turpin. Ritter and Turpin were both arrested following the incident.
33-year old Cody A. Dunlap was indicted on charges of first-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree burglary, operating on a suspended/revoked operator’s license, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with insurance and seat belt violations.
On the night of December 22, 2021, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department reported deputies were on patrol when they witnessed Dunlap rummaging through the property on Board Road north of U.S. 62. Deputies said an investigation determined Dunlap did not have permission to the on the property and he was taken into custody.
The grand jury also indicted 49-year old James R. Alfred, of Princeton, and 35-year old Travis Kyle Crook, of Dawson Springs, on a third-degree burglary – complicity charge. According to the indictment, Alfred and Crook entered or remained unlawfully in a building with the intent to commit a crime on October 13, 2021.
