Princeton Optimist and Kiwanis Clubs Celebrate Successful Radio Auction

The Princeton Optimist and Kiwanis clubs thanked the community on Friday night for their support in making this year’s radio auction a success.

Optimist President Jean Ann Albertson introduced Joe Graves, who announced that nearly 300 items were sold this week, generating just over $12,000.

Some of the highlights of the final night included the highest bids for the two framed, autographed posters of Mr. Kentucky Basketball and UK recruit Travis Perry. These prized items went to Bridgie Miller and Laban Hawkins.

Another highlight of the evening was something new introduced this year to support the scholarship program in honor of Radio Auction Heroes—Optimist Club member Melba McGowan and contributors Tom Ward and Troy Vinson. A special auction was held for a collector’s edition classic car, generously donated by Larry Wynn, the organizer of the local cruise-in and car show club. Optimist Club member Roy Gene Rogers came up with the idea to place a jar for collecting donations, with contributors being entered into a drawing to win the collector’s edition car.

Fittingly, the winner of the classic car, drawn from the entries, was Laci Vinson Harper, the daughter of Troy.

If you are unable to come during that time, she said to contact a member of the Optimist or Kiwanis Club to arrange for them to get your items to you.

Albertson expressed her gratitude to WPKY, First Baptist Church for the use of the building, and the Caldwell County band boosters for answering the telephones. Mann also gave a shout-out to T-Mobile, thanking them for providing the telephone lines for the radio auction.

The Princeton Optimist Club accepts donations from the community year-round to support the youth in Caldwell and Lyon counties.
