In the 2024 General Election on Tuesday, 62.11% or 6,228 registered voters in Caldwell County cast their ballots for the U.S. presidential, state, and local races. This was a decrease of 218 voters compared to the last presidential general election in 2020.
This turnout was higher than the 38.36% of voters who participated in the 2023 General Election, which included state offices, and higher than the 47% of voters who took part in the 2022 General Election, which featured local races.
In Caldwell County, the unofficial results for the U.S. Presidential race indicate that the Republican ticket of Donald Trump and JD Vance received 4,860 votes, accounting for 79% of the total, while the Democratic candidates Kamala Harris and Tim Walz garnered 1,256 votes, representing 20%.
For the 1st District Congressional seat, Republican incumbent James Comer received 4,870 votes in the county, while Democratic challenger Erin Marshall secured 1,263 votes.
In the local race for Princeton City Council, the top six candidates with the most votes were incumbent Jim Joiner, who received 1,875 votes, followed by incumbent Shelia Gates with 1,821 votes, incumbent Carl Copeland with 1,711 votes, challenger Rick Blackburn with 1,682 votes, incumbent Brian Conger with 1,660 votes, and incumbent Pat George with 1,643 votes. Ty’Quan Bumphus was also on the ballot and received 1,535 votes, falling short by 108 votes behind George.
The Fredonia City Council race had six write-in candidates for six seats. Bro. Presley Lamm led with 31 votes, followed by Stephanie Feagan with 29 votes, Mark Bell with 28, Teresa Travis with 26, Kent Wilcox with 23, and Crystal Moore with 20.
Winners in other local uncontested races included Carrie Ovey-Wiggins for Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 56th Circuit and Christie Storm for Caldwell County Circuit Court Clerk. Additionally, school board members who secured seats were Josh Ramage for the 1st Educational District, Stacy Brantley for the 4th Educational District, and Anna Ray for the 5th Educational District.
In the race for the Judge of the Court of Appeals, 1st Appellate, 2nd Division unexpired term, Lisa Payne Jones received the most votes in Caldwell County, securing 63% with 2,620 votes, compared to Jason Fleming, who received 37% with 694 votes.
Constitutional Amendment 1 received 3,816 Yes votes and 1,930 No votes, while Constitutional Amendment 2 received 4,064 No Votes and 1,898 Yes votes.
The question about medical cannabis in the county received 3,555 Yes votes and 2,387 No votes.
Caldwell County Clerk Jennifer Watson-Hale said she was pleased with the voter turnout for the General Election.
