Princeton Rotary Club Announces Annual Speech Contest Set for March 4

The Princeton Rotary Club has announced this year’s local speech contest will take place on Tuesday, March 4, at noon.

Dr. Melissa Earnest, a Rotary Club member and co-chair of the Speech Committee, told WPKY’s News Edge that the theme for this year’s speech contest is “The Magic of Rotary”, chosen by the president of Rotary International. She said that the District Speech Contest is open to local high school students.

The speeches are then judged based on their presentation and scores are tallied to determine the winner.

Earnest noted that this is a great opportunity for local high school students, as the last two contestants from the Princeton club’s speech contest have advanced to higher levels of competition.

She also provided an explanation of the speech contest at the local level.

Once a winner is determined at the local level, they move on to the sectional level, where the same judging process is applied.

According to Earnest, the winners from the sectional level advance to either the West, Central, or East region, depending on their geographic location. The winners from each region then advance to the final contest, which takes place during the Rotary Club’s District Conference.

Earnest stated that those interested in participating in the Rotary’s speech contest should obtain a registration and media release form from club president and Speech Committee co-chair Geneva Malone, any Rotarian, or by sending an email to princetonrotaryclub@gmail.com.

The Princeton Rotary Club’s speech contest on March 4 will be at noon at the Majestic House on U.S. Highway 62 West.
